Briana Hill, 21, Singer/Songwriter
How long have you had locs and what method did you use to start your loc journey?
I’ve had my locs for 1 year & 2 months! I only have 56 and I started my locs with two strand twists.
Who or what is your hair idol or hairstyle inspiration?
My ultimate hair inspiration is the beautiful & talented Lauryn Hill.
What lessons have you learned during your loc journey?
I’ve learned patience & understanding. That it takes time for wonderful things to come to pass. You must stay faithful and consistent for the results that you want.
What are your favorite products to use on your locs?
My Afrikan Black Soap shampoo, Cantu leave in conditioner. Raw shea butter & castor oil for my retwists & everyday moisturizing! Simple as pie.
How often do you maintain your roots?
Ehh, roughly every 2 months. They’re thick so I want to make sure I’m not putting too much pressure on my roots. I don’t use clips on my locs either. I started my locks as well as maintain them myself. The only time I’ll use a stylist is when I want it styled in an updo.
Why did you chose locs?
I wanted to see what type of stigmas came along with women with locs. I’be always been obsessed with locs & knew I’d grow my own one day!
Do you have a length goal?
I’m never gonna cut them so I’d say waist length.
What advice would you give to someone just beginning or considering locs?
Take that leap of faith because you will not regret your decision! My locs have had me realize so much more about myself. My esteem is higher than its ever been.
