Recently, I stumbled upon a tutorial for a halo hairstyle for locs on Instagram that claimed it was really easy to do. After watching the short, 3 minute video, I still wasn’t convinced. It did not seem realistic that I would be able to get all of my mid-back length locs into a halo hairstyle. And yet, based on the amount of requests for more loc styling videos, I figured it was worth a try. I am happy that I tried— it worked! I will share with you how I recreated this halo hairstlye and you can also watch how I created this halo hairstyle in my latest video, “Halo Loc Style” on YouTube.
Recreating the Halo Hairtstyle
The materials that were essential to me as I attempted to put all 36 of my thick locs into the halo hairstyle were jumbo hair pins, a loose headband, and an herbal moisturizer. I found that moisturizing my locs prior to styling eliminated any tension that I may have experienced. Ya’ll know I am REALLY tender-headed so tension is a no-go for me. I also did not feel like retwisting my locs just to style them, so I left my roots free, full and frizzy.
After moisturizing with the Moisture Infusion spray, I put the headband on my head. It is really important that you find a loose-fitting headband. You do not want the headband squeezing your brain before you even get started. Then, I started twisting my locs from the nape area to the front of my head and back around to the nape area. I found it easiest to then secure the ends of my locs by anchoring the jumbo bobby pins into the headband. And that was it— hairstyle complete!
