After taking the Sisterlocks class, you can only imagine how excited I’ve been about being a Consultant and sharing the Sisterlocks lifestyle. My excitement quickly captivated my beau and he has been contemplating letting me takedown his Traditional Locs and start Brotherlocks. If you read his Hair Story, you know he’s been growing his locs for a little over 6 years now and they’re more than halfway done his back, so it would be a big task and an even bigger change.
So about three weeks ago, we decided to give it a try with one loc. It literally took me almost two hours to comb out ONE loc and he lost a lot of length. After I combed it out and gave it a wash, I established one Brotherlock.
After being able to actually see the length (or lack thereof) and size of the Brotherlock, he started having second thoughts about doing a full establishment. Last week, I gave him a full-consultation as if he were a client to give him the full picture of what the Brotherlocks lifestyle would be like. For now, he is still on the fence and I am going to continue to maintain the Brotherlock to see how it cultivates on his hair and the rest will be palm-rolled.
This weekend, I have to retighten his Brotherlock because he had MAJOR slippage. The slippage is a result of him constantly getting the Brotherlock wet in the shower and he also messes with it a lot. After I retightened the Brotherlock it looked a lot longer and more condensed than the establishment.
I think his Brotherlock is doing well and if he can prevent it from getting wet and pulling on it all the time I think it would start budding fairly quickly. We will definitely keep you posted as he decides how to continue his journey.
I would encourage you to get sample locs or test hairstyles before making a major change to be sure you’re going to be comfortable with the new style and that you’re getting the look you’re going for.
Can you imagine if we combed out all this locs before we did the test locs?!
